Roach & Cockroach Control in Roanoke & the New River Valley
A can of store-bought spray only gets the roaches you can see. Bug Man combines targeted spray treatment with bait in the cracks and crevices where roaches actually travel, so it reaches the ones hiding where a can can’t. A free inspection identifies the species and how they’re getting in first, so treatment goes after the source.
- Owned and operated since 1994
- GreenPro & QualityPro Certified
- Free, same-day inspections
Treatment usually set the same day or within 48 hours, with results typically showing within 24 hours.

The Roaches We Treat Around Southwest Virginia
Knowing which one you’ve got changes where we look and how we bait, which is why we identify the species before we treat anything.
German Cockroach
The most common one in homes | About 1/2 inch, brown, two dark stripes
Loves warm, humid spots like kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, and breeds all year long. They’d rather run than fly.
American Cockroach
The big one | 1 1/2 inches or more, reddish-brown
Shows up around bathtubs, basements, and drains. Glossy, with a yellow border behind the head, and yes, they can fly.
Oriental Cockroach
The damp-spot roach | About 1 to 1 1/4 inches, shiny dark brown to black
Found in damp places like mulch, leaf litter, crawl spaces, and under porches. They’re most common in late spring and early summer.
Brown-Banded Cockroach
The one that goes upstairs | About 1/2 inch, light brown with two pale bands
Doesn’t need as much moisture, so you’ll find them high on walls, in closets, and in furniture, not just near the sink.
We treat smokybrown cockroaches too. They’re less common up here, but they show up, and your technician will know them when they see them.
How Roaches Get In (It Isn’t About a Dirty House)
Roaches are after food, water, and warmth, and they’re not picky about how they find it. A clean kitchen doesn’t make you immune.
- Moving in from crawl spaces, mulch beds, and leaf litter as it cools down outside
- Hitchhiking in on boxes, grocery bags, and deliveries
- Coming up through drains and plumbing gaps
- Crossing over from a neighboring unit through shared walls
Living in an apartment or townhome? Roaches can travel between attached units through shared walls and plumbing, so a spotless place can still end up with them. If you’re in Blacksburg, Roanoke, or anywhere with attached housing, let us know when you call so we can plan around it. Call 540-345-2200 for a free inspection.
Signs You’ve Got Roaches
Most roaches come out at night, so by the time you’re seeing them in the daytime, there are usually a lot more you aren’t.
- Roaches in the kitchen at night when you flip the light on
- Droppings that look like ground coffee or black pepper (smaller roaches) or small pills (larger ones)
- Shed skins and egg cases tucked behind appliances and in cabinets
- A musty smell in the kitchen or under the sink

Our Approach to Roach Control
The same four-step process behind every Bug Man treatment, applied to mice and rats specifically.
Why Roanoke & NRV Homeowners Choose Bug Man
Roaches aren’t just gross. They can contaminate food, and shed skins and droppings can trigger allergic reactions and asthma, especially in kids. That’s why we don’t treat a roach problem as something to put off.
We use EPA-approved, family-friendly treatments and put them exactly where they’re needed. If roaches come back between scheduled visits, just give us a call and we’ll come back out at no extra charge.
