Quick Guide to Pest Prevention

Pests are aggravating creatures to have in your house. They don’t need very much encouragement before completely infesting your home or business, and they destroy property, contaminate food, and can ruin your peace of mind. Few buildings are immune to pest infestations. However, there are ways to fortify yours against them. Here are a few quick tips to keep pests away from your home for good.

Inside of Your House

First, make sure your house does not have any cracks or openings that pests can use to sneak through. Check door frames, window screens, pipes and other utilities for possible entry points, and if you see any, seal them up as soon as possible. Use a caulk gun to clog up any pathways into your house and fix any broken screens so that no pest can make it past. Also, dry up any moisture and open water sources in your home and keep all the food you have in airtight containers to prevent pests from being able to sustain themselves if they do happen to make it inside. Finally, use insecticides on any pests you see in your house and around high traffic locations, making sure the chemicals you use are safe, and that you follow the directions on the label.

Outside of Your House

Now that you’ve taken care of the inside, it’s time to make sure the outside of your house is pest free as well. First, don’t let your grass get too high and make sure there are not any large puddles on your lawn. Bugs like to hide in tall grass, and they drink from puddles formed by overwatering. Next, if there are any tree branches making contact with your house, cut them, and trim back all of the bushes around your house as well. Pests can use foliage as a bridge to get inside.

Also, if you have firewood, stack it at least 20 feet away from your house in any direction and dispose of your garage regularly. If pests don’t find the outside of your house hospitable, they’ll be much less likely to venture inside, which is why the general upkeep of your house’s exterior is just as necessary for pest control as its interior.

Pests are not ideal houseguests by any standard, and for your health and the health of the people you care about, you’re going to want to do everything you can to keep them away. Luckily, with a little effort, it will not be too difficult. For more information or to receive quality pest control services, contact Bug Man Exterminating today.
